We install high-quality systems such as Hilti sleeves and cable transit frames to manage penetrations through fire-rated walls/floors.
We apply fire-rated sealants (acrylic, intumescent) around cable bundles and wall penetrations to maintain compartmentation.
We install fire-rated wall boxes to ensure that any outlet point or junction location maintains the fire-resistance of the surrounding structure.
Why this is critical
Every cable, conduit or service penetration through a fire-rated barrier (wall/floor/ceiling) is a potential weak point. If not properly sealed, fire or smoke can spread rapidly from one compartment to another. According to industry guidance, openings must be neatly formed and sealed to maintain the Fire-Resistance Level (FRL) of the barrier.
In Australia, the relevant standard frameworks include AS 1530.4 (fire-tests of elements of construction) and AS 4072.1 (components for protection of openings in fire-resistant separating elements).
From a cabling installation side, we must also observe regulations such as AS/CA S009:2020 for installation requirements and AS/CA S008:2020 for cabling products.
